If you intend travelling to Mexico by car, you should ensure that you obtain Mexican auto insurance prior to leaving your home city. If you are travelling from the US or Canada, you should not simply assume that your current car insurance is valid in Mexico, because it is not. It is not a problem to obtain Mexican auto insurance as you can purchase it online or at the border post, if you do not have the time to do it online. You can purchase your Mexican insurance policy from this URL.
It is a good idea to determine exactly what you require before you start your online search. If the value of your vehicle is quite high, you may want to consider choosing a comprehensive policy, instead of a liability only version. This will ensure that should you be in an accident, you will not experience problems with repairs or replacement of your vehicle. You may want to include some of the additional benefits, such as bail bond or legal assistance. These may come in handy if you are involved in an accident as you could spend some time in a jail cell if you have not been proven to be innocent or you do not have a valid Mexican vehicle insurance policy. This also makes it imperative that you print a couple of copies of your policy so that you can produce it when asked about it.
