Germany Car Rental Insurance
In Germany, unlimited third party liability insurance is a legal requirement, though worry not, as this is included in the price of all car rentals with Auto Europe. Third party liability insurance protects you from any liability resulting from property damage, death, or injury caused to anyone or anything outside your car rental in Germany. Fire insurance is also included in the car rental rate when you book with Auto Europe.
Germany Rental Car Insurance Comparison
Auto Europe vs. Cost at Counter
We strongly recommend you also purchase more comprehensive insurance for your rental vehicle in Germany, as it negates some of the risk of having to pay upwards of €1000 EUR in cases of vehicle damage. There are two additional car rental insurances you can purchase when you book early with Auto Europe: zero deductible car rental insurance or refundable deductible car rental insurance. Zero deductible insurance reduces the CDW & TP deductible hold on your credit card to $0, where refundable deductible insurance will reimburse you a portion or entirity of the deductible in the event you damage your rental car.
All these insurance options can also be purchased locally, at the supplier rental desk, but expect to pay a significant price, especially when comparing it to the rates offered by booking in advance with Auto Europe. Some major credit cards also offer inclusive insurance coverage as well, so make sure to check with your credit card company to see what offerings they have available for you.

Declining Rental Car Insurance in Germany
As mentioned above briefly, third party liability and fire insurance are both mandatory, and fortunately these are included in all car rental rates in Germany when you book with Auto Europe, but CDW and Theft protection are not required, as some credit card companies will provide these insurance extras for you.
Be aware that if you are planning on taking advantage of your credit card car rental insurance, there may be some restrictions that you could be unaware of, so make sure to check in with your respective credit card company, and request documentation stating all inclusions and exclusions.
Credit card companies may exclude certain types of vehicles for car rental insurance coverage, such as: exotic cars, off-road vehicles, RV camper vans, and luxury cars. They also may limit the amount of coverage provided to a 30-45 day maximum, so for long-term rentals it is very important to purchase the correct and appropriate insurance before heading out on the road. While you’re not necessarily required to purchase additional insurance policies when renting a car in Germany, it’s certainly worth considering.
